Taye grimaced as the "so" slipped out. Everyone knew this was a killer to conversations. She smiled apologetically at Emily.
"Great way to carry conversations huh!" She paused for a moment, hoping someone would step in a take control of the situation.
*Cue Caryn*
Caryn slowly made her way through the great hall. She had no real interest in being here and would have much preferred to stay in the common room, but alas, her body needed sustenance. It wasn't as though she was actually hungry, she rarely was, but everyone knew that food was needed to live. As she passed the Gryffindor table she glanced curiously over at a large cage, with possibly the largest spider she had ever seen inside it. She pitied the new owner of this pet. Who would want a spider as a pet. It definitely did not seem to be friendly. As she watched it charged towards the boy standing in front of the cage. The cage did not look as though it would hold for much longer.
She reached the Ravenclaw table and smiled shyly at three girls already seated. She sat quietly next to Derelta.
"Hi Taye, Derelta... I'm sorry I don't think I know your name" This last statement was directed towards Emily. Caryn glanced back over at the Gryffindor table as she heard a snarl.
"Have you seen the giant spider over at the Gryffindor table. Some poor student has received it as a pet."
Taye smiled back at Caryn,
"Hey Caryn."
Following her gaze, Taye searched along the Gryffindor table until her eyes rested upon a large cage with some sort of spider.

Emily smiled back at Taye when she referred to the ‘so’. “Yeah,” she said with a laugh, “or at least if the conversation is between dead people.”
Emily looked up as another girl sat down by Derelta and addressed them each in turn (she imagined that she was most likely the last one). “Hi, I’m Emily,” she held back the hand shaking because it was still covered in residue meat juice. “But you can call me the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Or, anything actually; I answered to the name Piemaster once.” As she began rambling off the subject a little, she put her chin down on the table and picked up her fork again, this examining it closely.
“That’s an interesting story actually- well, no it isn’t, but I’ll tell you anyway. See my brother Ryan -- or was it Tim, I can’t remember… hmm… no it couldn’t have been Ryan ‘coz he was at a party that day- anyway, I was sitting in front of T.V trying to ignore him when- no wait! It was Ryan that’s right, because the party was the next weekend! So, I was sitting there trying to ignore him when out of the blue he called me Piemaster, and I answered to it. I was in stitches I was laughing so much. Do you have any brothers or sisters?” The last question was asked out of the blue – much like Ryan’s calling her Piemaster.
“Giant spider?” Emily sat bolt upright, craning her neck to get a better look at the hideous beast. Almost as quickly as she sat up she was scrunched down again. “Is it poisonous? Oh I hope it’s not poisonous! I bet it is, and then it’ll bite me and I’ll die, and the universe will implode without my brilliance to hold it together, and then humanity will blame me for the destruction of it’s planet. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.”
The others may not have noticed, but Emily wasn’t doing so well with keeping a lid on her paranoia. “Quick! Distract me! Tell me about something, or ask me questions even. Quiz me on my times tables… uh, what’s eight times nine? Dang it! I don’t know my times tables!” She clutched her head and started to breath heavily in an attempt to calm down.
