Keiran did not revel in awkwardness, but it was often thrust upon him. He did have a knack for adaptation though, so he decided to try and push forth into awkward territory.
"From the sounds of it, it looks like you want your sister and I to mate. I mean, 'She's beautiful and she's in your year too.' I don't know if you meant it or it just came out that way." He managed to keep a straight face throughout the entire statement, but Keiran could not hold the laughter in anymore. He laid back on the step, laughing to a ludicrous degree at his statement.
After a bit, he sat back up, wiped a tear from his eye. "Sorry, but the way you said that. It just hit me in the most odd way."

Brutus gave a strange look, trying to delve through the meaning that Keiran had gleaned. He laughed after a moment, seeing Keiran's reaction to his own words.
"You know, thinking about it, it kind of did sound a bit odd."
His handsome grin remained, as he shook his head. He, of course, couldn't go selling off his sister. She was, after all, dating Sirius Black and the two of them were, from what he could tell, exceptionally serious.

"Yeah it did," Keiran replied, "but I know you didn't mean anything by it." It was not just what Keiran said that tickled his fancy, but also Brutus's confounded look.
Keiran was enjoying himself immensely with this conversation. It was probably the best time he could remember having at Hogwarts. With it normally filled with solitude, nervousness, and at times outright dread, this was magnificent for him. He had found someone with whom he could have a good, if at times incredibly random conversation.

As Keiran spoke, from Brutus' lips slipped an enormous yawn, which he managed to stifle just in time.
"Sorry," he apologized quietly. He gave a smile and shrugged. "I need to get back to my common rooms," he said. "It was nice meeting you, Keiran. When you get some time, I'd like to see your painting."
He rose slowly, removing his school robes and draping them over his arm. After all, it was just a short way to the Gryffindor Common Rooms.

Keiran's smile left his face, he realized that it was getting late, but he was not going to sleep and he was enjoying himself. He tried to hide his disappointment as he spoke, "Yeah, I suppose it is getting late. Probably should get some rest for tomorrow. It was very nice meeting you as well, Brutus. And I must show you that painting later."
As Brutus began to walk away Keiran took out his harmonica and began playing, nothing in particular. It came out bluesy.
